What an amazing find!
The Old School - Boyndie Visitor Centre的点评
点评：After 5 hours on 3 different buses (car was in garage), I'd had enough of beautiful Aberdeenshire scenery and was hoofing up a country track in the rain towards my overnight stop, when I saw the sign for this visitor centre and decided to do a quick recce as I'd arranged to meet my friends there the following day.
Where do I start?
This amazing community enterprise and training facility is all that and so much more. The restaurant was packed and I soon found out why. Cullen Skink (fish soup) is always on the menu for me in these parts, but this version was something else, jampacked with flavourful and nourishing fish - a meal in itself.
There's a little museum and information section about the nearby wartime airfield and the well-supplied visitor centre shop - should really say shops - is/are full of an extensive range of clothes, practical items, books and gifts to please many tastes.
I spent much longer there than I meant to, and was back next day for coffee, cakes and another rake round the shop with my delighted friends, before we set off to see the nearby windfarm.
Before we left the area, I managed a quick look round the beautiful garden centre which - even in early Autumn - was an experience not to be missed. (Fat grapes growing happily in a wee coastal shelter in autumnal north-east Scotland. Did you ever...?) That's when I really missed the car, or at least its boot. So, you see, I'll definitely have to go back there very soon.
Denied (temporarily) the pleasure of purchasing a tree or plantpots, it was back to the inside, where, at long last, I was able to buy stabilisers for my bird table along with tiny metallic gift boxes with tasteful pictures of Highland cattle (the latter just £2 each) for my friends.
There's a lovely feel about this visitor centre and I was given help and shown great kindness there. I just wish it was a bit closer than 5 hours away. It'll be quicker when I get the wheels back.
