A wonderful walk with a bar to avoid

点评：We did this walk backwards by accident and it was still amazing - there is no car park in Penina but there are places to park on the roads nearby. The village is very quaint, with lots of pretty houses and flowers everywhere. There is a tiny museum (just a store room, really). It does have a decent public loo, a little south of the bus stop.
The walk is tough initially as the track is ungraded and fairly steep, but once on the top trail the going is easier and the views down to the coast are stunning. We took the short detour to the southerly viewpoint which was well worth the five minutes it took to reach from the main trail.
Spring flowers and birdsong accompanied us for the whole walk, which was a delight in the mild spring air - I think the summer months would be too hot though.
On reaching Rocha da Pena we stopped at Bar das Grutas, where we made the mistake of not asking for a menu/pricelist. We were stung for overpriced drinks (no glasses provided), and two small tasteless toasties! There was a broken toilet to one side (one Euro for walk-ins). Best avoided. But this could not detract from the experience - we met several people on the walk back to Penina who we had encountered on top of the cliffs - they were doing the walk the right way, having started at the Rocha da Pena car park...
