Isle of Scalpay Lighthouse的点评
点评：The only way to reach the lighthouse (officially known as Eilean Glas Lighthouse) is on foot. The shortest walk, from a car park at Outend on the west side of Scalpay, will take between one and two hours depending on your level of fitness and how often you stop to wow at the scenery. Some online and print guides recommend returning by a different route along the southern edge of the island. I'd recommend this as long as you know what you're letting yourself in for; the ground is much rougher and took us about twice as long as the "official" route from Outend. This was in exceptionally dry conditions and we saw enough to know that after a wet spell it would be extremely difficult. Even though it's got regular waymarker post we found that in a few places on the southern route we needed some basic map reading skills and a reliable GPS map on our phone; in bad weather when you can't see from one marker post to the next, stick to the more recognised route unless you really know how to navigate across featureless country.
The cafe offers very welcome tea and coffee and a limited range of cold snacks. They don't do meals as such so if you plan to spend a long time at the lighthouse you might want to bring food with you. There's some very interesting information about the history of the lighthouse as well as a regularly updated list of wildlife sightings.
With a good pair of binoculars or, even better, a birding telescope, there's a fabulous range of wildlife to be seen from here on a clear day. Even if whales and porpoises aren't your thing, the views across to northern Skye and the north west highlands are well worth the effort of getting there.
