Ancient land, decent park.
Shipley Country Park的点评
点评：Shipley Country Park is a 700 acre site of varied and landscape of wildflower meadows, gentle hills, lakes for fishing and pretty copses that sits across the towns/villages of Heanor, Shipley and Mapperley in the Erewash and Amber Valley regions of Derbyshire, close to the Nottinghamshire border.
The park has 20 miles of quiet, well tended footpaths to wander along, and also incorporates the Nutbrook Trail that runs from Heanor to Long Eaton, and is a very pleasant walk.
There are a few "outside gyms" dotted around the park, which is pretty cool, and there is a nice visitors centre which is most easily accessed from the Slack Lane entrance in Heanor.
The park (or at least part of it) once played host to The American Adventure, a brilliant Theme Park with a Wild West feel. It sadly closed in 2007 and I miss it enormously. It was a big part of my childhood.
The land has now been reclaimed by nature (which is a good thing I suppose) and can be enjoyed by all.
There are mobility scooters available from the visitors centre, so the well tended pathways of the park can be enjoyed by those with limited mobility, whilst refreshment can be sought from the small shop or the Ramblers Cafe (both best accessed from the Slack Lane entrance) or the Derby Lodge Tearoom a bit further away into the park.
The park has a lot of wildlife in it (obviously) and one year people were lucky enough to see Short Eared Owls for quite an extended period of time. You can also see Badgers, Green Woodpeckers and Barn Owls if you keep your eyes peeled.
This is a decent park that I would advise anyone (solo, couples or families/large groups) to visit. Just be aware that the car parks at Slack Lane and over at Mapperley Resevoir are not free. I believe the ones at the main centre are those awful cashless ones too.
