Disappointing Experience with Mug Purchase from Northern Watters
I purchased a handmade mug from Northern Watters as a gift while on a cruise. After storing it safely for a couple of months, my daughter opened the gift only to discover that the mug was cracked in several places. I reached out to the store. As per the store policy, they were unwilling to do anything. I reached out to the potter, and while she offered to replace the mug, I was surprised to learn that I was expected to pay an additional $40 for shipping. It was already an extravagant purchase of $45 US dollars. Adding $40 for shipping would have made the cost even more excessive. The potter later agreed to assume this cost, but then reneged.
I feel it’s unfair to be charged extra for shipping since the mug was defective. As one can plainly see in the photos, this was a production issue, although the potter proclaimed how careful she is. If I had broken the mug, it would have been in shards. While I appreciate the offer to replace the item, I believe that the cost of shipping should be covered by the maker, considering that the mug was defective upon unboxing.
