点评:My experience at Happy Elephant Home was not only a highlight of my recent trip to Chiang Mai and Thailand, but also of any travel I’ve ever done. The staff and caretakers at this sanctuary are some of the kindest, most generous people I’ve been lucky to meet. They have a true love for the elephants and it shows in the way they care for them and devote so much love and time to them. I did a full day trip, and it turned out to be just me that day, which means I was lucky to spend a lot of time with the elephants Molo, Bua Bann, and Big Mama. I was shocked not just at how kind and intelligent the elephants were, but also how silly and playful. They have such a funny way of showing their emotions and interests, especially when food is on the table. It felt like I was playing with a dog, albeit a much bigger dog and one with a trunk.
This sort of personal experience is a strength of Happy Elephant Home among all sanctuaries: you really get to know the elephants and begin to learn their personalities, which is so rewarding to do while feeding them bananas, petting them, helping to walk them down to the river, and washing them in the river. Much of this was brand new to me, but the facilities and the land itself are so stunning and beautiful that I immediately felt at home.
It is also important to stress the high degree of respect and ethical responsibility Happy Elephant Home has for its elephants. When looking at sanctuaries, I learned to do my research for ethical ones, as there are apparently some sanctuaries out there that cross a line for the sake of entertaining guests. Not only did I feel that Happy Elephant Home cared deeply for their elephants, but I also appreciated their effort to educate me on these trends in the industry and to show me that being kind to the elephants, feeding them, and giving them total freedom actually leads to the happiest elephants and the most entertained guests.
If you are in or near Chiang Mai, you absolutely must book an experience with Happy Elephant Home. My one day there is among the most rewarding days of my life. Please support these wonderful people and elephants!

如果你身在清迈或清迈周边地区,一定要预定一次“快乐象园”的体验活动。我在那里的那一天,堪称我一生中最有意义的日子之一。请来支持这些了不起的人和大象吧!
