Immersive experience swirled with art, culture and architecture
Swaminarayan Akshardham (new Jersey)的点评
点评:I visited last Monday. The layout of the campus was easy to navigate. After you park and walk up, you are immersed in a scene that surrounds you with incenses, soothing music and visuals that are captivating! Take some time to look at the topographical map of India that shows the path that was taken by Bhagwan Swaminarayan. Walk past all of the pillars and incense cart while admiring the golden statue of the young yogi. The stepped pond winds you over to the Welcome Center. Upon entering, be sure to admire the mosaics and teak wood carvings. The short video in the theater was very educational.
Unfortunately, I was unable to enter the mandir across from the welcome center due to a private event. I then admired the statues of musicians on the pillars as I made my way to the elephants and entrance of the temple.
I found the shoe room to be efficient and easy to navigate. I was nervous about the stairs being slippery but they have a grip strip on it. Once you reach the main level you will be amazed by the detail in the carvings surrounding you. You will wind your way around the floor within roped off areas that takes you to all of the highlights. The focal point is the statue of Swami Maharaj, a fifth generational relative of Bhagwan Swaminarayan. It is very inspiring and gave me the warm and fuzzies even as an agnostic. You will continue the loop and then make your way to the shoe room and go back outside.
Next, you visit the shop, cafe and dry goods store.
I would return especially after the new educational center opens. Overall, It’s quite an immersive experience swirled with art, culture and architecture. The people that worked there were lovely.
Tips:
-Make sure you don't have any holes in your socks so you can glide with ease across the cool marble.
-Make reservations if it's a holiday or weekend.
-When entering, head to the welcome center to the right. When you get inside the
palace, enter the temple from the left side.
-Don't miss the short video in the welcome center.
-Although you can't touch anything there is a place to feel the marble.
-Don't miss the store across from the cafe that has spices, dry goods and refrigerated to go snacks.
Morally:
I didn't give it five stars because I was rubbed the wrong way when the educational video overemphasized the appreciation towards the “volunteers”. The FBI investigated this place for forced labor, modern day slavery!
