点评：Avoid Economy rent a car, they have internal policies that are deceiving and not the norm in most rent a car companies in Costa Rica.
Yes, it is mandatory to have insurance in CR when renting a vehicle, when other people say "do your homework" it is true to a point....however most Canadian credit cards offer that insurance and when renting a vehicle you can mention it or in some cases, pull your benefits and show the clerk what you cc covers.
I have rented vehicles many many times a vehicle in CR and never had an issue. Here is what Economy tells you when you are doing the paperwork in the office:
- If you showing them the benefits of your credit card they say..is not enough, you need a "letter" from the credit card company specifically saying that you are covered, otherwise you have to "pay" the extra $350 (depending on the length and type of vehicle you get).
You can even tell the clerk that if you type in Google my credit card type and bank it shows that rentals are covered but nope.... not without the "letter".
I finally decided not to rent from them on the spot (along with other 4 families from Canada and I believe the US as well that were incredibly frustrated.
Then we went next door to Budget rent a car and 5 minutes later, I had a vehicle. The other families went to other offices (since they have other rentals in the same compound).
Avoid Economy, they said that their policies are coming from their US office which in either case, they are dishonest and even though they may show a "cheaper" price online, they will try to be sneaky when you are standing there tired from flying with your family.
