点评:For some reason, I had always believed the submarine at Portsmouth was in the water and was 'disappointed' to find it up on dry land when I arrived. As it turned out, it is so atmospheric and cramped inside, I was quite glad it was not underwater! There was a slight wait of about 20mins to go aboard as a small party, which was no hardship on a sunny day, and even then, a handful of tourists make the submarine feel very full as you pass through the various rooms. You can try the periscope and see up the conning tower, view all the instruments, galley, sleeping quarters. I never much fancied being a submariner anyway, and now I have additional respect for those that are. As an added bonus, the short boat ride from Portsmouth to Gosport and back again is also a very pleasant trip, but in March, this is only available at the weekends, so check for whichever day/month you intend to visit. The nearby submarine museum, with the Turtle, the Holland I and many other interesting artefacts is also not to be missed. As with everything else at the Historic Dockyards, this is quite brilliant.
