Great Day in Cañón Mesquite

点评：We had a fabulous day hiking Cañón Mesquite with Said Orozco. The canyon is absolutely delightful. The hike itself is an out-and-back with a mixture of desert and slot canyon terrain, with a variety of pools that require wading and in some cases swimming. The oasis of the slot canyon contrasted with the surrounding desert is magical!
When we went, it was a hot day, but the water was still quite chilly, and made for a nice respite from the heat. Said was a terrific guide. He was very helpful and knowledgeable, and had all the necessary equipment (footwear, wet suits, helmets, etc.) to make for a safe and enjoyable experience. Plus he prepared a great lunch!
I highly recommend hiring a guide if this is your first time hiking the canyon. While it's possible to do this hike on your own (there's a full description of the hike on alltrails), getting to the trailhead requires four-wheel drive and finding trailhead and trail itself would have been challenging on my own. The security of having someone that knew their way around was invaluable for us. Plus have the right equipment was essential to enjoying the full experience.
