点评：This was truly an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Yves was waiting for us when we disembarked in Cherbourg. He came equipped with maps and a tablet with archival photos, battle plans and his own aerial photos (all of which he later shared electronically.) As he drove, he offered geographic and cultural background to allow us to appreciate the Normandy region. Timing our visit to get us to Omaha Beach at low tide, Yves provided historical context to explain the selected location and timing of the landing. Combining the broad scope of the battle plan and what went wrong (The first casualty of war? The plan) with stories of individual experiences and heroism, Yves pointed out sights, landmarks and details that we never would have seen had we attempted this on our own. His presentation was packed with information, delivered in a way that enhanced our understanding of the drama that unfolded on these beaches, farms and behind these hedgerows. This was an emotional, overwhelming experience. It would be impossible to overstate the value of being escorted by a guide with an encyclopedic knowledge of the facts and figures, but also of the why's and wherefore's. Yves's own appreciation for what took place in Normandy shone through everything he shared. We spent eight hours together and the time passed as if it had been only fifteen minutes. During our eight hours, we visited the German Cemetery, Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc, the American Cemetery, Sainte-Mère-Église and Utah Beach, with a final stop at a special statue which we so appreciated. And we had lunch. The tour was not rushed or hurried. Yves packed our day in a way that left us elated at having had the opportunity to walk on this hallowed ground and to have a sense of the breadth and depth of the history of the history and of the sacrifice.
