An excellent local museum

点评：This is a really fine local museum, quite a bit bigger than it looks from the street. Lots of information about local history, including a reconstruction of a blacksmith's workshop and typical cottage interior, as well as the town's earlier phases. There's a large display on the ground floor devoted to military history, especially the career of Hector MacDonald. Definitely have a look in the upstairs room too! The recently-discovered Conan Pictish stone is on display in the front window. This means it's possible to see one side of the stone even when the museum is closed, but unfortunately means the other side is silhouetted against the light from the window, and quite hard to see. It was a sunny day, though, and I've a feeling it would be easier to see in dull weather. A great little museum, anyway, and very helpful and well-informed volunteers. Don't miss the other Pictish stone in the nearby churchyard.
