点评:This museum was a highlight of our 10 day stay in Granada. It is a privately run museum - as opposed to city or state owned, so not all the exhibitions will be 'slick' but this is part of its charm. The museum experience is unconventional, and feels like it was curated by the community, and not an official state interpretation, which can carry it own biases. We are glad we came here ourselves and not as part of a tour group, it meant we could walk through at our leisure. The staff were incredibly welcoming and even though it can be a steep walk from the city centre, it is very manageable and absolutely worth it for the experience, and the bonus spectacular view of Granda and the Alhambra from the Mirador de las Cuevas. The ticket price is very good value at €5.
As someone with a professional background in the arts and heritage sector, I felt that the dual language interpretive panels were well written and concise, especially when compared to the Alhambra, which provided scant information for visitors not on a tour, or with an audio guide (which I detest personally). If I had any criticism, I would have liked to have seen more photographs, and possibly personal stories of the families that once lived here, on the margins. It felt like a missed opportunity not to have a shop selling crafts, like those displayed through the exhibits (ceramics, metalwork and weaving).
I didn't have much interest in the geology exhibit, but it is a unique feature of the setting, and it compares it to cave dwellings around the world.
