点评：We hiked to the Castle of Valongo at sundown. Set off a small country road in the middle of wine fields, the setting—with its rolling hills, distant views, and small lake—is breathtaking. The parking area is small, marked by a sign explaining the castle’s history: originally built by the Romans, later expanded by the Portuguese and the Moors. The fortress is square in plan, with a tower at each corner and a massive keep on the right. Its isolation, simplicity, and dramatic setting make this short 20–30 minute round-trip hike well worth it. The castle isn’t open to the public, but you can walk around its ancient walls and peek through the iron door.
