点评:Covering more than 21,500 square feet, this must-see museum is at the northern end of Mycenae Acropolis, within the archaeological site near the famed Lion Gate. Parts of the collection reveal aspects of Mycenaean daily life—as well as death and life beyond. It offers valuable insights into the astounding Mycenaean civilization achievements that forever shaped and determined the ancient Greek world—and influenced modern civilization. Museum construction began in 1985, completed in 2003. Artifact dates range from the “Copper Period” 5000–3000BCE—before Egyptian Pyramids were constructed—to the Hellenistic period, 2000BCE, when some of the Pyramids had been built. Some of the more significant artifacts are at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.
Some of the exhibits on display include ceramic vases, copies of which I brought home as souvenirs and are depicted in the accompanying photos. Access to the museum is included with the archaeological site admission, which includes Citadel & Treasury of Atreus and Lion Gate. Plan to enjoy a day at this educational site.
