点评:To be shown through The Africa House (Shiwa Ng’andu) and its surrounding estate by owners and residents Jo and Charlie Harvey will be an everlasting highlight of our trip to Zambia.
Standing in front of treasures like the bone china dinner set given by Queen Victoria or the complete set of Punch magazines (from 1834) in the library, you’re reminded everything you see came here on the heads of porters 100 years ago. It contains so many unique treasures, so many amazing memories (Charlie tells us his grandfather strictly forbid any talk of sex, politics or religion around the massive dining table which was built in situ).
We saw ‘the sweaty faces of the coffee pickers’ (coffee is a relatively new enterprise here, the game lead the estate’s exchequer) and the original school, piggery and all the buildings that hark back to the origins of this immense estate. This is living history, for lovers of Africa and all things farming. Highly commended!
