On our traditional company outing after the end of the season of our hotel in Taormina, we visited Arianna Occhipinti's winery near Vittoria (RG). We were not only interested in the highly acclaimed wines of this young winemaker, but also in her concept of biodiversity, with which she not only cultivates quality wines, but also old Sicilian grains, fruits and vegetables, and produces olive oil as well.
The welcome was incredible! Such a beautiful place in the middle of the slightly hilly countryside near Vittoria. A historic wine press house and villa surrounded by vineyards, so well maintained and tastefully redesigned.
The super kind Francesco explained to us, in a clear and understandable way, the biodynamic cultivation that is practiced there, with plants sown between the rows of vines and horn abrasion introduced into the soil, all to enrich the soil with natural methods. We were also impressed by the fact that Arianna Occhipinti's wines receive only a tenth of the amount of sulphates required, compared to conventional wines.
The result is stunning. The subsequent tasting in the historic wine press house - which included delicious snacks to try, their own olive oil, home-baked bread, and the azienda's olives - convinced us all of the special quality of these wines. It was great that the winemaker herself came along and answered all our questions.
An amazing, determined lady who founded the winery just 18 years ago and has already reached the top of Sicilian wine culture. A company that is run with passion and love that can be felt in every corner. We can only warmly recommend this experience to everyone.
