点评：The Rose River Falls Trail loop was the first hike we did in Shenandoah National Park and probably my favorite one. There is a small parking lot across from the trailhead on Skyline drive but there is also an overlook with a lot of parking which is where we started. We chose to do the loop trail clockwise starting on the horse trail and finishing coming up the fire road which turned out well.
The horse trail is also the regular trail and after descending takes you to the falls in a mile or so. The trail is fairly rocky throughout but not overly technical. We went in mid October and the leaves were full of color. The trail was also not very crowded at all. After leaving the falls and starting back up the mountain the trail parallels the water which I was not expecting. There aren’t any large falls like Rose River but plenty of very scenic spots. As soon as you arrive on the fire road you come to the base of Dark Hollow Falls. To see the main viewpoint of the falls is only a few tenths of a mile but it is straight uphill after you have already been hiking 3 miles. We thought it was worth it since it allowed us to skip the longer part of that trail. The fire road is a gradual uphill climb back to the parking lot but it is a very wide and easy path. We loved this hike and would recommend it to anyone visiting the park.
