点评:We visited Coity castle on a wet midweek day in August. We were looking for somewhere to take the grandchildren and opted for three castles namely Candleston, Ogmore & Coity. The castle is the remains of a 12th century fortification and is to be found in the community of Coity Higher near the town of Bridgend. We drove here and there is a small lay by in Heol West Plas that we used to park up.
The castle itself is an open ruin and admission is free. The ruins are large and impressive the children enjoyed climbing and running around the stone walls and though the door arches. The keen student of castles can pick out some former defensive features including the bailey, curtain walls, towers and gatehouses. Walking around the site one can only imagine what it may have looked like in its heyday.
If you like photography there are some good opportunities here, we took pictures of the ruins showing the textures in the stone and old carvings around window and door frames and also tried some black & white photography.
We spent about an hour here before moving on. Certainly, the most impressive of the three castles visited on the day. Our scoring reflects the castle as a stand-alone attraction.
