点评:Held every weekend inside the Rozelle Primary School, this is a fun market that feels like a traditional flea market. It’s almost entirely made up of individual stall-holders and has none of the imported cheap plastic stuff that fills a lot of other markets these days.
There’s an eclectic range of stalls here. Lots of clothing stalls (new and vintage/second-hand), some shoes, some handbags and some jewellery.
For those who like collectables and bric-a-brac, this is a regular treasure-trove and you can spend some time browsing from stall to stall - lots of antiques and vintage goods. Several of the stalls specialise in particular things like silverware, records, china, or tools.
There are a few plants stalls (mostly succulents) and some unexpected stalls like the large area near the entrance with several tables full of fabrics, sewing patterns, buttons, craft stamps and boxes of fat quarters for patchwork.
For the kids, there’s a big shady playground in the centre of the market and the tool guy down towards the back has a large box of $1 matchbox-like cars which can keep the little people busy for ages.
The food stalls are clustered together on one side of the market but it’s only a handful of stalls and there are several nice cafes just outside the market, along the main street.
Overall, the market won’t appeal to everyone. It’s not a farmers’ market so if you’re after fresh produce or home-made jams and chutneys, you won’t find them here. Nor is it an artisans' market so you won't find hand-made soaps or candles either. However if like me, you enjoy the occasional treasure hunt in search of something a bit special or a bit different, then the Rozelle Market is worth a visit.
NOTES:
* Open Saturdays, 10am-3pm
* Parking is not easy but you will find metred street parking within walking distance and there is at least one small car park nearby with a 2 hour limit.
* Some stalls only take cash. It can catch you out. I never have cash in my wallet anymore - don’t even have a wallet. There is an ATM nearby on the main street but it’s probably handier to come prepared with a few $$ just in case.
