点评:I hoped to make it to Loch Distillery and Brewery enroute to a weekend away in South Gippsland. The cellar door is only open for a few hours in the afternoon on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. I just made it.
I was only planning to get some beers to take away but when I saw they had a hand pulled oatmeal stout on tap I had to stay and try it. I still had 15 minutes before closing time and who knows when I'll get a chance to drop in there again? Hmm, 15 minutes, eh? Maybe I could try a whiskey, too.
So, I got half a pint of the hand pulled oatmeal stout, which was very nice, and half a dram of the Hungarian Oak Barrel Aged Whiskey, which was amazing.
The cellar door/bar has a very "old world" feel. Shelves of bottled and jarred spirits and produce, polished copper distilling equipment and oak barrels. There were a couple of other patrons there and they didn't rush us out the door upon closing time.
I got four beers to take away, the dark ale, the county ale, the best bitter, and the pale ale. They shared a very distinctive aroma and taste with overall flavours modified by the specialty malts in each brew.
That wasn't my first visit to Loch Brewery and Distillery. Hopefully it won't be my last, either.
