点评：Do not tell the staff at the visitor center you are using the restrooms, otherwise, they will charge you the $30 park entrance fee. I was driving through Death Valley on route 190 from Pahrump to Sequoia National Park. I stopped at Furnace Creek Visitor Center to get some information and use the restroom. I asked the staff if I needed to pay the entrance fee if I'm just driving through Death Valley. The staff stated that there is no charge if I'm just driving through. However, they stated if anyone uses the facilities (eg. restrooms), they will need to pay the entrance fee. Many other people who visited the visitor center used the restrooms, but were not charged. I was stupid enough to ask for directions and mentioned that I used the restroom at the visitor center. After the staff found out I used the restroom, he insisted to charge me the $30 entrance fee. To avoid making a scene, I just paid the $30. We followed route 190 and drove through Death Valley without stopping anywhere.
In my opinion, every visitor center I have visited has never charged for using the restroom. There is no sign or staff in front of the restrooms to inform visitors to pay prior to using the restrooms. If that is the case, people would probably pee or poop off the side of the road to avoid using any of the facilities.
To me this was just a pressure tactic to get money from me. This was my first time at Death Valley and probably the last time I will travel there. As nice as the scenery was, I just wanted to get out of Death Valley since the staff left a bad impression just thinking of Death Valley.
In the end, this was definitely the most expensive restroom break I have ever experienced.
As a side note, Sequoia National Park was definitely worth the visit and the entrance fee. In addition, I was happy to make a separate donation to the park.
