点评：Death Valley National Park is huge, so much so that it is the largest national park in the contiguous United States. Nearby this park's only active visitor center (VC), there are sand dunes, salt flats, and mountains reaching upward of over 11,000 ft. I had plans to see the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes but they were foiled by Daylight Pass Road being partially shutdown out of Beatty, NV due to construction. The road opened back up the next week. For this reason, it is always best to check the NPS website for any alerts and the latest conditions.
With minimal light pollution, Death Valley NP is an exceptional place to view the sparkling stars, planets, and the Milky Way in the exquisite night sky. It was designated an International Gold Tier Dark Sky Park in 2013 by the International Dark-Sky Association. It is one of only 18 National Parks that have been designated as an International Dark Sky Park in the U.S.
Things I did at this VC included viewing the exhibits and 20 min. park film, picked up a park brochure map from one of the rangers, stamped the Death Valley NP stamp in my Passport book, stocked up on lots of water, and lastly, took a picture of the thermometer outside that just so happened to read 100 degrees during my mid-April visit. Allow 30-35 mins. at this VC.
