Overhyped, set your expectation before visit

点评：You need to visit this place with the right expectation else it will be a disappointing trip. Just because many people told you what a wonderful place it was fitted not mean you will have same experience.
The route to the temple is via narrow single track road. There are few passing places. You may have to reverse it cars coming from other direction. If you panic in single track country roads then ask a friend for lift or call a taxi from nearest town.
From the car park, you need to climb steep hill to reach Kali (known as Maha Shakti) temple. The road till temple is drivable but they don't allow cars. There is a minibus service for the elderly but many able bodied people also sneak in. If you are not fit to climb hills for 15 minute then think before visit.
They ask you not to eat non vegetarian food for 3 days before visiting. But nobody can really validate that. So it is entirely up to you what you want to do. Same goes if you are a menstruating woman.
The actual Kali temple is very small. Temple remains open for very short period in early morning and evening. Make sure to arrive on time. If crowded, then you will be asked to sit in one of two tents where you will see puja thru a TV screen. After puja finishes you will be asked to queue by rows to visit the Kali idol, known as darshan. The English priests were unable to recite Sanskrit slokas with correct pronunciation.
If the temple officials tell you that you will visit temple in few minutes, be ready to wait for half an hour from that point in the tent. People will jump queues so don't be surprised. You may have to wait again just before entering the main temple if there is crowd.
You can spend few minutes inside as crowd will continue to push you. Because of the huge crowd overall experience is not spiritual at all.
The food may be served there or near Murugan temple near car park. Again be ready to stand in long queue.
There is also a Vishnu temple. You may or may not see animals. They will fenced so you can't interact with them. I only saw deer.
If it rains the area will be muddy. Consider this place as mini version of India, so be prepared to deal with misbehaving crowd.
It does not cost here to visit. If you wish you can donate. Nobody will ask for money.
If you visit on a day which is not crowded you may have better experience. But you can't predict when it will less crowded.
