John Lennon Memorial Garden的点评
点评：I've seen some duff reviews for this garden whose grandiose 'Memorial' title suggests something a bit more imposing than this small, rather scuzzily-maintained patch of greenery. But my own view is one of gratitude that it's there at all. After all, Durness was no more than an (albeit regular) holiday destination for the Lennon family in John's early and unfamous years. When I went, there was nobody there at all. I parked (free) two steps away from it, got out of the car and walked round it, all in under five minutes. There are a couple of rather odd gravestone-type things in it with the lyrics to In My Life faintly engraved on them. It's pretty underwhelming but nevertheless puts you in mind of the great man whose life was so unnecessarily cut short. And that's its strength. If you're my age (70), John Lennon loomed very large indeed in one's adolescent consciousness. So I don't really care that the local council or whatever doesn't maintain it to the highest standard. It commemorates him and that's enough. And what's more, he was a humourist - I think he'd have got a nip out of it.
