点评:I'm interested in military history, so found looking round these massive concrete Second World War submarine pens quite unique. For many this won’t be of great interest, as that's pretty much all you can do. Both Dora 1 & 2 (Submarine bunkers) now house various private businesses (both commercial and industrial) so not all areas are explorable today. Whilst you can walk round Dora 1, only Dora 2's exterior is viewable from the one side.
Besides viewing the exterior structure there are a few small information boards around explaining the significance of the site, purpose and history. They have also added some large historical picture boards which are affixed to the staircase (evident on the busy roadside of Dora 1) to help supplement its history. You can walk up these steps to get a better view, but they are steep. You can also view the basin in front of Dora 1 and walk along the front to see the conning tower of a 1960s Norwegian Navy submarine.
It’s a large site and is explorable in about a 30-minutes. It is on the eastern edge of the port with lots of roads and industrial buildings surround. It took me about a 30–40-minute walk from the centre to get there. The residential area just across the railway tracks from Dora 1 is quite run down and I wouldn't suggest being in this area at night but during the day these house small indie businesses and student digs.
The Dora bunkers are limited in offering and is certainly a side trip from the main attractions of Trondheim but for someone interested in military history this is worth the small detour.
