South Downs Planetarium and Science Centre的点评
点评：The South Downs Planetarium and Science Centre is located on the grounds of Chichester High School. It’s very well signposted once you are on their campus and there is ample car parking near their Sir Patrick Moore building.
The centre is run by enthusiastic volunteers and is suitable for all ages (except possibly the very youngest). Admission costs are incredibly low (adults £8 and children 6 to 16 years £5).
We went on a Sunday and they had a full audience, so glad that we had booked online in advance. Once we arrived, we were shown into a anteroom to watch a short film about the space station before being ushered into the main planetarium for the show. It was a fascinating presentation from a very knowledgeable astronomer about the night sky. The talk was was educational and enlightening, yet also entertaining !
During the show you recline in very comfortable reclaimed luxurious 747 aircraft seats. The duration of the talk was just over the hour, so make use of the facilities before going into the dark auditorium.
There is a small shop staffed by the volunteers at the site, but (at present) there are no food or drink facilities available and the nearest cafe is the Chichester Canal Cafe a short distance away.
The Centre opens to the public just 45 minutes before the published show time and there are many displays to see whilst you await for your talk. You can even take your photo with Patrick Moore’s wax work, or next to their make believe astronaut suit.
A very suitable trip for when the weather looks bleak on the South Coast and well worth the visit at anytime, no mater what your knowledge of space is.
