Beware of the Scams! Beautiful cenotes otherwise

点评：We got a collectivo from Merida to Homun for 40 pesos a head, reasonable and fast. On arrival you get hounded by the motorcycle taxi drivers trying to get your custom, we agreed a price with two of them as we were in a big group and it seemed reasonable enough,
Once on the taxi and being driven down the road for a few minutes they then stopped and told us we had to hire life jackets as they were obligatory in each cenote for 100 pesos each, they then took us to one of their friends house who rented us the life jackets and collected another 500 pesos of us.
On arrival to the first cenote I noticed they give the jackets out for free and that there was no need to rent these other ones, the second cenote required no lifejackets at all, on seeing this i told the driver Erwin that they were not needed, he argued and lied to me about it, after seeing that I was on to their scam both drivers were frosty and unfriendly.
The cenotes are really beautiful but be careful of this scam as it’s a clever trick and lifejackets are free with each cenote or unnecessary.
The cenotes around Villadolid are more beautiful in my opinion and we were not subjected to any scams or untrustworthy behaviour.
I’ve included a picture of one of our drivers so you know who to avoid.
