点评:This review is specific to the CHRISTMAS tour. We’ve been to Plum Orchard several times in the past but heard about the special Christmas event so we brought first-timers with us. When we booked the tour, we were told to dress better than when typically visiting the island, and that period food would be served. We *assumed* we would have a dedicated ferry to and from the Plum Orchard dock which was reinforced by the email confirmation outlining the schedule and 45-minute ferry ride. When we arrived at the dock the day of the event, there was all sorts of attire so we would have been fine w outdoor/hiking garb. The ferry ride was just under TWO hours. We not only stopped at Sea Camp, but Dungeness, too. We had to do some significant back tracking to get around a sandbar. Granted, we got some up close views of Kings Bay and dolphin sightings, but…did I mention TWO hours? Once at Plum Orchard, it was very organized. They took us in groups, starting at various stations within the mansion so we weren’t on top of each other. They had activities at many of the stations which were period-appropriate and charming. It’s not the full tour we’ve received in the past but pretty darned close. The food we were promised was store-bought cookies that were *likely* served in the day and jugs of cider and lemonade. The trek back was even worse than going. The weather wasn’t great this day but it was really raining coming back and indoor seating is limited. Imagine a ferry full of the sizable tour group and then add the normal Island trekkers and overnight campers ready to return with their wagons of gear, bikes, etc. And we all want to sit inside. For two hours. There were many expressions of safety concerns as well. There was extremely limited visibility coming and going yet no required signaling of the ferry horn. It’s also highly unlikely there were life preservers for all on board, or that they could even be accessed due to the passengers being crammed in like sardines. It was shameful that two ferries didn’t run that day. Overall assessment: unless there’s a commitment of a dedicated ferry, skip it unless 4 hours on a ferry w potentially nothing to see for 1 hour of tour is your idea of fun. If it is, dress comfortably and bring a backpack w food, drink, and a deck of cards.
