The reef is awesome but the boat to get there needs improving

点评：We booked the firefly tour with this company. They left on time in an airconned van. The driver was a bit mad...not sure his driving was very safe, but we did arrive in one piece. The boat ride lasted for 30 mins, and saw lots of fireflies, it was beautiful. The guide at the front told us about their life cycle. After our boat, we got straight back in the van for home.
We enjoyed the tour so much, we booked with Valerosso again for island hopping. As we were repeat customers they gave us a very big discount and said theyd meet us at our hotel as it was right next to where the boat was mored. To be fair, they sent a tuk tuk for the short 2 min drive and it did arrive on time.
When we got to the beach, the boat guide pointed to our boat. Neither boater spoke english. The boat was very small and the engine was not powerful at all. We asked for life jackets and they didn't want to give them over, they guestered that they would give them to us when we arrived at the snorkel spot. Some of our group were nervous about the boat ride so we were insistent and they got them out the hold (not very useful place to keep them if in an emergency). The life vests were very old and the buckels did not all clip together but they did float.
The sea was quite rough (of course this is noones fault) and we did not see any dolphins, but the boaters did try to find them
When we got to balicasag island, they told us to put our snorkels on. Although I had checked with the boater that they had them on the boat, they did not. They managed to find some on land for us but they were not clean- other peoples spit and suncream were still all over them and the mouth piece had been bitten off.
We were given a snorkel guide called Michael who took us out on a smaller boat to the reef. He helped us get in and out of the water and showed us lots of different fish and turtles. He took some great shots of us on my gopro too. He helped all of us get back on the smaller boat (no steps but a rope to push up on) and it felt very stable. The reef was not quite as good as palawan and was very busy with lots of other boats and people, but we still had a wonderful time.
We then transfered to Virgin island and bought a drink there and then got back to alona at 11.15. The Virgin island restaurant makes you pay p20 per person to enter. There were philippines goverment signs saying to beware of the seafood there which is overpriced and not safe for consumption.
Although we were not hughely impressed with the boats safety/ service, Michael made it worth it.
