Pitawala Pathana的点评
点评：Pitawala pathana is a montane grassland in the knuckles mountain range. It offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and the highlight of the place is a sheer drop know as the pitawala pathana mini world's end. Aparently there are also two small waterfalls, which we didn't know of as we didn't do much research before getting here and the markers were placed only for the trail up to the mini world's end.
It was flat terrian and an easy hike. The round trip took us about 45 mts - 1 hr including time spent on taking numerous photos. [The insta famous location is found right towards the end of the trail, but not right at the end and it is slightly covered by trees.] It was drizzling the day we went and slightly cold. But the weather can turn quite hot during the season which is from January to March. We didn't see any leeches. But we were ready with covered shoes and Siddhalepa.
The entrance to pitawala pathana is right on the side of the Raththota-Ilukkubura-Hettipola road. There is ample parking on the other side of the road. There is also a canteen which even offered fried rice! (May be it was because of the long weekend) and the cleanest public toilets I have been to! (May be because they were brand new and you to pay a small fee). The ticket counter is next to the canteen. Locals had to pay LKR 75 or LKR 150 each. (Since we visited several palaces on the same day and bought so many different tickets I cannot recall the exact price paid here.)
While riverston (the other famous view point in the route) was covered in mist as it was the off season (we visited in June) Pitawala Pathana still offered good views even from the drop, but was quite a string wind, so you couldn't get too close to the edge.
