点评:Visited in October 2024 with a group of around 25 of us friends from our group. Booked easily through " Eventbrite" We were booked in easily by Keith, one of the guides to the complex , who explained the basis of the tour, Whilst we were waiting on the other guide Julian who was inside getting the tour ready, Keith gave us a brief chat about the geology of the sandstone, which was quite interesting, as you normally just see stone as stone ! Julian started the tour telling us about the history of the site , pre WW2 , during WW2 and then moving onto the Cold war history. We were shown the decontamination room, the vast water tanks , then moving onto the WW2 shadow factory section, Julian giving fascinating stories about the place, We saw a "early Tesla" lol, huge clocks, tannoy system, before moving onto the Doctors surgery, more interesting stories and details about injuries and deaths that occured there. Moving on through the photo gallery , we were shown into the Cold war kitchens, and concert hall, before moving onto the Accomodation section for the workers who would of spent up to 6 weeks down there in the event of the nuclear holocaust . Lots of interesting things were pointed out by Julian, with Keith on hand at the back to answer questions from those at the rear of our group. We got to see the 1940s, 1960s and 1980s offices and the radio announcement room with all the equipment still in situ. After this the tour was pretty much over as Julian told us about the Wine Store next door and Michael Portillo's visit to both the museum and the wine store. We then exited via the gift shop . Drakelow is run by volunteers and as such give up their time to help us gain a in-site into the history of the tunnels. Well worth a visit and very good value for money .
