点评:We had a wonderful visit to this stunning building. All the guides were so welcoming, friendly and knowledgable. We were invited to join a tour, (for which we happily made a contribution), listened to talks and were lucky enough to go up the tower to view the bells & clock. It's a steep dark climb but well worth it if you get chance on a tour. The guide who led us was superb, so obliging. (Apologies, we didn't catch his name)
We found some relative's gravestones outside, but could not locate all of them, probably due to weathering. Crowland Abbey has an incredible history. The whole site is huge, one of the biggest in the UK it's heyday. There are still substantial remnants today and the existing building is still very much open and in use as a parish church with numerous fascinating features. Highly recommended.
Thanks again to the brilliant guides!
