点评:So crowded it is very difficult to photograph.
It is a very interesting market that is a combo livestock market, flea market and food stalls selling produce and cooked foods.
We’ve been to markets like this all over Central Asia … from Mazer-I-Sharif in Afghanistan to Osh in Kyrgyzstan and Bukhara, Uzbekistan. This one is also very interesting, but the day we went, it was so crowded that one could barely make their way through the crowd.
Besides the locals, there are many, many tourists there as well.
For photographers it is very hard to get good candid shots with telephoto lens because of the crowds.
Better to stick with wide-angle lens and get close up to your subjects.
Maybe plan to be there early, when it first opens.
We actually preferred the livestock market and bazaar in the village of Beshkerem… about 15-20 km from Kashgar old city.
We were there on a Saturday.
Beshkerem has a smaller bazaar but still the same idea with selling of livestock, stalls with beautiful produce, food being prepared and cooked for sale.
Beshkerem livestock bazaar and market is also the “real thing” but on a much more manageable scale and so, so, so much easier to get great photos. Not many tourists there and the locals are friendlier when you photograph them.
If you plan to visit any of these local livestock bazaars and markets, be sure to bring essential items (small cuticle sticks or stiff picks and old toothbrushes or nail brushes) to scrape out and wash off the dung, animal hair and other gore out of the soles of your shoes at the end of the day.
