点评：The Newgrange and Knowth sites are not to be missed. When we started researching Ireland, we felt this was a must stop for us. Daily tickets are very limited and are released for purchase daily at midnight Ireland time, 30 days ahead of the visit day. Each time grouping has a max of 30 people/tickets. One cannot see these sites at all without a timed ticket.
A ticket allows for the exhibition, a guided walk around the outside and on top of the Knowth site, and entrance into the passage chamber at Newgrange. You board a shuttle bus which takes you to each site. The OPW runs the entire tour very efficiently and thoroughly. All the OPW guides were very knowledgeable and informative; we especially enjoyed having Mary at Knowth guide our tour. She was so enthusiastic that she kept our interest and made the time go so fast even with the light rain we had at the time. I did appreciate that the group was split in half to each have their brief visit into the Newgrange passage chamber. It was a bit tight and you did have to bend low in a few places in the passageway, but we all had space to stand upright inside the inner chamber.
We were on the last tour of the day with a ticket arrival time of 1:30 to catch the shuttle bus at 2:15 (after a short walk over the bridge). I wish we had gotten there a bit earlier to have a bit more time in the exhibit building prior to going over to catch our shuttle (the last shuttle of day). We only had a quick 30 minutes in the exhibit hall as we had to make sure we did not miss that shuttle. When we got back from the passage sites at about 4:30, the snack shop, gift shop, and exhibits were all closed, and the whole facility was closing by 5pm. I wish we had gotten there earlier and/or had more time after the visit to the sites.
