点评：I decided in August, 2023 that I wanted to go to Iceland in January, 2024 to celebrate my 75th birthday and see the Northern Lights. My husband and I had visited Iceland in the summertime over 20 years ago and had a basic idea of the country and the roads. However, it would be wintertime for this visit and the weather could be bad. We decided that it would be best to have a driver and tour guide, rather than rent a car and travel on our own. Our daughter and her family had used the services of Reykjavik Private Tours & Transfers operated by Drifa and Baldur about one and a half years ago and raved about their trip. I contacted Drifa in September and arranged for Baldur to pick us up at the airport when we arrived and travel with us for 6 days on the Southern coast and then bring us back to Reykjavik where we would stay for another 5 days on our own. When we arrived, Baldur was waiting for us as we exited baggage claim and immigration, at around 7 a.m. He grabbed our luggage and took us to his large luxury 4 wheel drive SUV. We headed to the Southern coast, making several scenic stops along the way, arriving at the Magma hotel in the early evening. For the next 4 days, Baldur would pick us up each morning with a preplaned itinerary based upon the weather, road conditions (closures) and sights that we had told him we would like to see from reading guide books. Each place he took us was spectacularly beautiful. On our last day with Baldur, he picked us up in the morning and we headed back to Reykjavik, making stops at scenic places along the way including along the Golden Circle. We had a wonderful time in Reykjavik and after 5 days at the Edition Hotel, Drifa picked us up and drove us to the airport. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our time with Baldur and Drifa and are hoping to return to Iceland again. As for seeing the Northern Lights, we were fortunate that we got to see them our first night. Unfortunately, the skies were cloudy for the rest of the trip so additional viewings eluded us. However, the beautiful scenery, sunrises and sunsets totally exceeded our expectations and Baldur's ability to lead us on the adventure to see all this beauty more than made up for any disappointment in failure to see the Northern Lights more than one night. Note: We highly recommend having a driver and tour service for winter visits, as the roads are narrow and are not lighted in the dark and conditions can change rapidly, including limited visibility and snow. A knowledgeable driver made the experience that much more enjoyable.
