Journey ok with unpleasant security checks
Newhaven Ferry Port的点评
点评：I have used the Newhaven Dieppe ferry since 2008. I travel as a cyclist.
The waiting area and reception have been modernised and are clean and comfortable. The café has been replaced by vending machines. There is little or no improvement to the road area leading to the ferry gates. It has a bleak aspect which I find depressing.
The boats have been refurbished and are fit for purpose. I don't find them unpleasant. There is a cafe and bar on both vessels. The food looks ok but I just have chips so I can't really comment. The crossing takes about 5 hours and is less expensive than Portsmouth to Caen with the same number of boats (3) per day.
The staff in reception and on board are generally pleasant and competent. I have occasionally experienced disrespectful behaviour from the security and border force employees.
The most recent crossing was on the 28th of July 2025. I was subjected to a search of my backpack and to a patdown. The person who conducted the patdown appeared to me to be grubby as was the area in which it took place. In Dieppe a device was used for personal search which seems less degrading, and definitely more hygienic.
