Gainsborough Heritage Centre的点评
点评：The Gainsborough Heritage Centre is located a short walk away from Central station.
Lea Road station is around a mile away.
It is housed in an old post office and telephone exchange.
There is a vast array of interesting displays including Roman, Viking, Civil War and World War II artefacts.
The town was once an important inland port on the River Trent and was briefly capital of England during the short reign of Sweyn Forkbeard in 1031.
I liked the watercolour paintings by Karl Wood which featured prominently throughout the museum.
I had a good chat with volunteer Peter who had a terrific knowledge of the local area.
Agriculture was big business in Gainsborough and Marshall and Son were major employers in the area creating farm machinery such as tractors.
Admission fee is £3 and the museum is open on Tuesday and Saturday from 10-4.
