A special day ruined by poor quality and dreadful dining experience

点评：Planning well in advance, I called the restaurant and booked a window table for the 17th November meeting. It was to be a special 80th birthday celebration for two lady identical twins and we arrived on the day with high expectation.
Sadly, the day turned out to be a farce with astonishingly poor service and value from this otherwise idyllic location. We arrived to be ushered to table one, two rows away from the windows, in line with a door which was continually being opened and not shut by other racegoers, result? we spent the entire meal cold with our coats on. Being the furthest away from the kitchen, our table appeared to be served last for every course; remember this was to be a "special" celebratory lunch........Having asked for bread several times, rolls, very hard inedible rolls eventually arrived; followed by our first course some 30 minutes later.........racing underway, door opening and not closing, our party of four getting colder and colder. Our main course arrived 80 minutes after our starter, we were the last but one table to be served................Yorkshire pudding rock hard, Vegetables barely cooked, the whole meal just got worse.....to cap it all, cold inedible crumble desert finished off one of the worst meals any of us have ever experienced.
In fairness, the house manager tried her best to compensate, waving the cost of a bottle of wine and two beers. BUT it was supposed to be a special event at a quality location on an occasion that cannot not be repeated. Our waitress, Sophie did her best to manage the situation, but it was clear that the kitchen was either overwhelmed or was happy to deliver sub standard service and food quality, we will never know; Certainly we will not return.
