Lengthy, wind-swept sandy beach
Low Newton-by-the-Sea-Beach的点评
点评:The car park is on the hillside overlooking the village and is subject to Northumberland County Council charges which at the time of our visit were £2.80 for 1 hour; £5.00 for 2 hours, £6.50 for 3 hours and £9.00 for up to 24 hours. People were parking by the roadside a little further back to avoid the charges.
It’s a reasonably steep paved hill downwards, and a bit steeper coming back up!
The village seems to consist of a green surrounded by little cottages and a quaint pub, The Ship Inn, and beyond here there is easy access to the beach.
The beach is sandy and was very exposed to the wind on the day we visited making it an unlikely spot to be sunbathing (possibly in common with many Northumbrian beaches). It stretches for miles continuously right along to Embleton Bay and Dunstanburgh Castle ruins which are worth a visit. There is access near the golf club at Dunstan Steads if you wish to get a bit closer to the castle and park for free.
Mindful of the parking charges here we only took a short stroll on this occasion prior to heading back to the village for a quick look inside the pub. No time for refreshments with the meter running but it looked quaint and was very busy. They seemed to have organized some live music which was a surprise for such a small, remote location.
If you can avoid the parking charges it’s another lengthy sandy beach similar to others in the area.
