点评:When planning our Australian vacation, we set a priority of seeing (and perhaps purchasing) quality Aboriginal art. When we were presented with the option of overnighting in Alice Springs, en route to Uluru, we were elated.
We arrived in AS with only a few hours of actual free time to explore the galleries, so we dropped our bags and moved quickly to explore the spaces on Todd Mall.
It's hard to articulate, but walking into the JILA Arts space, we found it easy to slow down and explore their paintings. Samantha stayed easily accessible to us to answer questions and help out as needed. I did a quick online search for reviews and found that this particular gallery has an impeccable history of ethical practices and direct artist support, along with access to some of the more important artists of the Aboriginal art movement.
In the end, we decided to bring seven paintings back to NYC. We acquired art from Esther Bruno Nangala, Gwenda Turner Nungurrayi, Corrina Ryan, Agnes Nampijinpa Brown, Dulcie Long…and an extra-special piece by George ‘Hairbrush’ Tjungurrayi, one of the original members of the movement. The whole way through the process, Samantha and her husband provided us with cursory education on the types of art, and more detailed stories about individual pieces and artists. Purchases also include a Certificate of Origin, Authenticity and Provenance, along with a CD-ROM of info about the art/artist.
As tourists, we were aware that shipping art back to the US could be prohibitively expensive, but learned that there are multiple options for making this happen…none of which seemed to be a real barrier. We ended up transporting the art ourselves, as we bought pieces small enough to fit in a sturdy packing tube when removed from the wood stretchers. Our only additional costs here will be having the pieces put back onto stretchers for display at home.
We are 110% satisfied with our experience at JILA Arts and hope you’ll choose to explore it yourself.

我们收藏了Esther Bruno Nangala、Gwenda Turner Nungurrayi、Corrina Ryan、Agnes Nampijinpa Brown、Dulcie Long等人的艺术品……以及George “Hairbrush” Tjungurrayi(该运动的创始成员之一)的一件特别作品。
