Not very exciting building

点评：The Sacred Heart church in Fribourg was built at the end of the nineteenth century under the architect Max Maekel's design. As far as the architectural style is concerned, it's apparently neogothic, albeit, it is upheld that the said architect was requested to adopt a late romanesque scheme. The exterior of the temple, as already stated, is almost completely in neogothic style. Unfortunately the church was utterly shut on the day I tried to visit it, which prevented me from observing the church interior. It's there maybe where one can gather the alleged commitment by the architect to orientate himself on the transitional style from the late romanesque to the early gothic. Hopefully I'll have the possibility to ascertain that fact on my next journey to Fribourg.
The building is a high mass concrete structure visible from many parts of the city. From an artistic viewpoint, it's not very aesthetic. The most appealing feature of the exterior is its double tower facade. Although that is somewhat eye-catching owing to the towers height, once one has come closer and thus seen it more in detail, he realises that it's nothing extraordinary. Both the main entrance door and the windows are pointed arch ones, typical from the gothic style. The colours outside are not very attractive, which no doubt contributes to give the whole a gloomy appearance.
At any rate, it might be worth visiting in the hope that one has the luck to find it open, and so the possibility to watch the church interior which, as far as I have heard, seems to be more interesting than the outer part.
