Frustrating 3hr first time visit

点评：Visited this reserve on 27th June 2024, my opinion is that it is a lovely reserve but really quite badly organised in terms of first time visitors and a very poor show from Yorkshire water in this respect, despite my best efforts [and with know one around to ask] I could not get the entry ticket machine to respond either with cards or cash, it eventually kept some of the money, a £2 coin, and rejected the rest but i was still without a day ticket, also there are some paths to the reserve that are not on the maps or not signed and the whole place suffers from inadequate signage making it even more frustrating trying to navigate my way round for the first time, if it hadn't have been for the only people on the reserve, a lady and a couple who kindly helped me out here it would have been extremely easy to have been totally lost, also, some of the maps mounted on the information boards are actually orientated the wrong way round which made it worse and also according to the literature I was under the impression it was open until 6.00pm only to be told while there, no, its actually 5.30pm so to be sure I had to virtually run back before the gates were locked, rather annoyingly when i arrived back at my car a 'warden' had left a note telling me off for not displaying my ticket!!!, don't they ever check to see if the ticket machine is actually working!! they are obviously not bothered about the lose of revenue here. Great place you could easily spend a good day or more at but very poorly organised for first time visitors unfamiliar with the layout.
Also why restrict visitors to a 5.30/6.00pm time limit in the summer and with no access to one of the hides, I think most people would be happy to pay more for entry initially and not have these quite mean restrictions after having travelled quite a way off the main drag to get here.
