点评:This is a review of the visitor center only, not the tour (see Taliesin Preservation for my 5-star tour review). The visitor center was originally designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1953 as a freestanding restaurant. Now it has a restaurant on one side and a gift shop on the other side, with small restrooms in the entryway between the two. There is no museum exhibit area like you might expect in a visitor center.
The restaurant was just ok. I had a turkey/provolone sandwich that was good but heavy and it came with a cranberry spread that had spilled onto the plate and got the bread soggy before it was served to me, plus it was a bit pricy at $18. I had asked them to leave off the red onion and they did, but also left off the spinach which I wanted.
The gift shop had a good selection of Frank Lloyd Wright souvenirs and home décor items and I bought several things. We checked in for our tour at the gift shop desk and the ladies working there were very friendly and helpful. There was a screen in the waiting area showing a slideshow of info about Taliesin and aerial views which was interesting to watch while we sat on a couch and waited for the tour to begin.
Our guide convened our group in the middle of the gift shop so he could talk about this building before we boarded the shuttle for the tour. If you are taking a tour, you will definitely want to spend a few minutes in the visitor center; but I wouldn’t drive out of the way to come to the visitor center without taking a tour.
