Prettiest part of this island, and so quiet
Farol de Gonçalo Velho的点评
点评:We went a bit before sunset and were all alone. This was a lovely escape from WAY ocercrowded Praia Formosa where 99% of visitors seem to congregate. We got there just in time to see a rainbow and incoming rain storm that was lovely. The last bit of road, single lane, is very trn up but our small, gutless, renta car made it. Would not be fun if you encountered traffic going the other way especially leaving up the incline. There is a plaque commemoratinga tragedy where an entire family went over the edge right at the junction so do drive slowly. Local drivers, 99% of them men, drive like Italians and are a major hazard.
Santa Maria has been a big disappointment after Sao Miguel's beauty left us breathless. Most the island is much more barren than Sao Miguel, lacking all the flowers. Also, loads of dilapidated structures making it look worse for the ravages of time. But from the Pico North, its much more similar to Sao Miguel with lush forests and lots of hydrangeas adding many splashes of color. Driving back in the rain and mist was not scary at all, quite tranquil really.
