点评:This National Park site was definitely "at the end of the road" and remote, with few visitors the day we were there, but well worth it! I learned a lot about the personal lives of residents in a company-owned coal mining town, and the history of coal mining towns in this area. The original buildings are gone and open-air steel structures represent what once existed, so you won't get the feel of a coal mining town. However, the exhibits on the self-guided walking tour are informative and the entrance to the mine itself was interesting. Unfortunately the bridge over the coal tipple was closed and probably will be for quite some time due to the expense of needed repairs. I like off-the-beaten-path adventures, so this was exactly the type of site I enjoy visiting. Preservation of this slice of American history is so important, and I sincerely hope the National Park Service continues to maintain it.
