点评:A challenging trail but absolutely worth the effort - the views all the way up and down the pyramid are breathtaking, not only up on the summit!
Hubby and my 12 yo & 14 yo boys did this trail mid-January and were sure to pack 2 litres of water each (used water and soft drink bottles!), muesli bars and apples and set off at 6am. Although it was a clear and sunny morning, it wasn't hot as the sun was rising behind the pyramid so we managed to avoid the direct sun. We did get direct sun coming down after 9am however it wasn't so bad as the descent wasn't as demanding!
We all had regular runners/ cross-trainer shoes on and had no issues. It is a steady uphill all the way up, not much reprieve from this BUT there are ample places to stop for a water/ breather break and soak in the marvellous views whilst doing so. We didn't rush as I was keen to enjoy the climb and nature around us as we went. I'm not good with climbing heights and steep trails and there was one rock face in particular that I had to scramble on all fours and shut out the doubt in my head in order to successfully get above it - other than this particular section it was not too scary for me. My husband and boys had absolutely no issues, I'm the only one that gets scared with climbing any steep inclines! The trail is very well marked with red triangle reflectors up and back, even our boys could follow them with relative ease.
You definitely need a degree of fitness to do this - I'm a regular (slow) jogger and walker (about 15 kms/ week), hubby also does parkrun and regular gym sessions, my boys play basketball most days of the week. Your heart will get a solid workout from this trail right from the get go!
I used Strava to track our hike and the return hike was approx. 8km, over 900m elevation and took us just under 5 hours. A most memorable and magnificent experience for us to achieve as a family - highly recommend!
