点评：My dive club chartered their boat last March, and tried to talk us into rearranging, giving a flimsy excuse about poor visibility. We told them we wanted to keep the booking, but ultimately we had to agree due to strong winds.
We rearranged the booking for the first weekend in September, and once again they tried to talk us into postponing for the same reason. They then tried to convince us the wind would be a problem.
We had studied the forecast in detail and there was due to be barely any wind. We insisted on keeping the booking.
We got there on the first day of the booking at the time they stated. They arrived 40 minutes late.
They asked us to put kit on the boat. We followed them to the pontoon, and there was no boat. After making a few phone calls, they took us to a different pontoon, where they found it.
After loading the boat, Clare and Leanne locked themselves in the wheelhouse for around 15 minutes. This is an odd thing to do, as it was a glorious day, and the wheelhouse is tiny.
They emerged 15 minutes later and told us the engine would not start. We unloaded kit, and as we came back for the last trolley load, they told us they had managed to start the engine, saying it was a loose connection 'under the seat'. The seat they refer to is the bench the the rear of the wheelhouse, which is also the engine cover.
They were clearly lying. There was a constant procession of trolleys moving eight sets of dive kit over multiple trips between the car park and the pontoon, and they apparently managed to move kit off the engine cover, start the engine and put the kit back without anybody seeing this...
They agreed to refund us, but to this day (20th April 2024), we have note seen a penny.
Since then, Duttons Divers have picked up an improvement notice from the HSE and a CCJ.
One of the directors (Jean Dutton) is in court on Monday the 22nd April for a bankruptcy hearing. The other (Clare Dutton) was due in court on Wednesday the 17th for a hearing relating to her own impending bankruptcy, but failed to show up.
They have set up Phoenix Watersports Ltd to hide their terrible credit history, their HSE records, and allow them to keep trading when the directors are disqualified.
