One of the largest Roman homes discovered in Northern Italy. Some lovely mosaics.
Domus di Tito Macro (ex Fondi Cossar)的点评
点评:The ruins of this large covered atrium house are located between the Basilica precinct and the ruins of the Roman Forum. We gained access via the combined 48 hour FVG card Aquileia which we obtained at the Tourist Information Office. We received a very useful English language guidebook with an explanation and plan of the various rooms of the house at the entrance to the Domus.
The house, believed to have belonged to Titus Macro a wealthy merchant, dates back to the first century BC, when several houses stood in this area. Between 25AD and 75AD the previous houses were merged and subsequently enlargened to form one large house that covered more than 1,500 square metres. Archaeologists have identified approximately 27 rooms within the house together with an atrium that has a garden and a fountain.
The rooms identified include bedrooms, shops, a bakery, a kitchen, and dining and living rooms.
A good number of the rooms have lovely mosaic floors.
