Salford Lads' Club的点评
点评：What a venue!
Salford Lads' Club was founded in 1903 by James and William Groves, brothers from the Groves family of brewers and officially opened by Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the Boys Scouts, on 30th January 1904.
The purpose-built club, originally for boys, today welcomes people of both sexes and organises different activities including sports and creative and cultural exhibitions.
The Grade II listed building was designed by Salford architect Henry Lord, who was also responsible for the Salford Museum and Art Gallery. The interior of the building is magnificent and retains many original fixtures and fittings, including the main and secondary staircases, interior joinery, fireplaces and glazed wall tiles. The original layout survives in almost unaltered form, designed around two main halls, a ground floor recreation hall and a first floor concert hall.
The exterior was used as a backdrop for a photograph of the Smiths in 1985 and draws fans from across the world who visit the building, which today has a dedicated ‘Smiths’ room on the ground floor.
The building had also been used as the location for a number of films and TV dramas including Peaky Blinders, Survivors, Shameless and the Forsythe Saga.
Still in use as a youth centre and 'Lads and Lasses' Club, the venue is also used a concert hall, exhibition and event centre. It's a superb venue, a place of historic value and a reminder of our rich heritage.
The staff are very friendly (mainly volunteers) and very knowledgeable.
The venue hosts events and open days, if you get the chance to visit - GO.
